Act 02 — The Detail

What the valley does to the wiring
The housing stock here tells you what the work will be before you open the panel. The mill-era cities along the river — Springfield, Holyoke, Chicopee — are full of nineteenth and early twentieth century multi family buildings, which means knob and tube, ungrounded circuits and services that were sized for two lamps and a radio. The post war streets that filled in around them were built to 60 or 100 amps and have since been asked to carry central air, a second refrigerator and now a car. Out toward Westfield and the hill towns the lots get bigger and the work moves outdoors: longer buried runs, landscape lighting, detached garages on a proper feeder instead of an extension cord.
One valley, two rebate systems
This is the thing most people here get wrong, and it is worth knowing before you plan a budget. Four of the towns we serve are on Eversource, which puts them inside Mass Save and its zero interest HEAT Loan. Chicopee, Holyoke and Westfield are not — they run their own municipal light plants, Mass Save does not apply, and each utility has its own efficiency and rebate programs instead. Your address decides which one you are in, and the town pages below spell it out.

West Springfield, Springfield, Agawam, Longmeadow, Chicopee, Holyoke and Westfield. West Springfield is home, so it usually gets the fastest response. For work just outside that list it is worth calling, particularly for pool, spa and generator jobs.
